Using Google Analytics to Track Facebook Fan Pages

Facebook is the second most favorite website in the world, so it's probably a good idea to get on there if you're a company or are promoting a product. Think of how many population would see your page. If you don't have a Facebook page for your company or product, then make one right now. After you have so many fans, then your fan page can get a personalized Url such as your company name or product. That's even great for marketing and Seo. Now that you have your fan page, how do you know what visitors you're getting and what they're seeing at?

Facebook provides their own analytics for the fan pages called Facebook Insights. But these statistics are only available to page administrators. The analytics program is also lacking in information only showing demographic details and interactions. It is nowhere near as sophisticated as Google Analytics. Since Google Analytics uses javascript to track, and Facebook fan pages could not run javascript, any great tracking was out the window.

However, thanks to new study we now know how to get the analytics program provided by Google working on Facebook fan pages. All functions of Analytics work on the Facebook page such as visitor statistics, traffic sources, country, keywords and maps). A workaround was recently industrialized that uses an image and server side cookie management.

To do this, in your Google Analytics account set up a new website profile. Then originate a convention html image tag for each of your pages you want to track. Then add the html to the lowest of each Facebook page you want to track. Google Analytics takes 24 hours before any stats will start to show, so you'll have to be outpatient before you see results.

If you don't want to use the formula above with redirection, then you can download the Php source code from the above link. You will need to have a host that can run Php. If you do determine to use the files on your own server, you get some advantages. One is that you can track visits from your website to your Facebook fan pages. Also you can customize the code further.

Now you can ultimately find out if all your Facebook marketing is paying off. What links on your pages do visitors click the most? How do visitors find your fan page? Do they click on your coupon links?
